How do I know if I really have a torn acl?

I wen to the doctors today and they did some x-rays, no MRIS just regular x-rays. Then the surgeon guy examined my knee and he said it was a torn acl. He made plans for me to get the surgery done already and I didn’t even get an MRI. I can barely walk though.

I had the injury last Monday, (5th) and after a week it felt alright to do sports and when I did, my knee just pop and gave out.. does it sound like an torn acl?

I asked the doctor to see if I could rest it for 2-3 weeks before getting the surgery, and he said it was fine..

is a knee stabilizer/brace ok for me to use?
